2. What is refilling?
In the last
years inkjet printers had become very popular, mainly, due to their great versatility
to print text and graphics, in different ranges of resolution, in an economic and
efficient way. The inkjet printers come with different capacities and costs; however,
highlight by its low price, which contrasts with the price of the ink cartridges
that requires to acomplish the impresion. It is very common that when its required to
replaced those cartridges, one must spend aproximately the cost of the printer,
only with cartridges! After facing the need of installing new cartridges
two or three more times, you find out you have paid two or three times the price
of the printer. It is better to buy a new printer!
A cheaper alternative is the cartridge refill, but manufacturers have been commissioned
to discredit such alternative indicating it on their manuals, that the printers can suffer
irreparable damage if you decide to refill the cartridge - which seems to be very convenient,
more if you consider that the third time of replacing the cartridges is cheaper buying a new
printer.
The reality is, like in many other things, they only say half-truths.
Refilling cartridges actually may provoke "damage", only if done in a wrong way.
But, 縏hen what is the right way of refilling cartridges?
First of all, the ink used to refill the cartridges has a lot to do. The ink you use must
be the right for the cartridge you want to refill. Using different ink than the required
may cause injector blocking, the ink used can have a pH so high it may damage the cartridge,
among other problems that may present. In the other hand the cartridges are refilled
following a procedure that is different for every brand and cartridge model. Sometimes,
is required to produced the vacuum, i.e., to avoid spilling ink. If the vacuum is not done -
as stipulated by the corresponding procedure-, the ink will be spilled inside the printer.
Then, the refilling procedures indicate the most adequate method for refilling cartridges.
Sometimes it is required to release the upper cover of the cartridge, sometimes it is
necessary to make a hole on the cartridge, sometimes ink is injected through the right
canals for that purposes. Some cartridges are merely ink containers, others, have sponges,
others, have bags where ink is deposit. When the ink is injected, you shouldn't introduce
the needle of the syringe beyond certain point, or else there is the risk of ruining the
cartridge.
Some people who refill cartridges, usually diluting the ink using, for example, water,
so they can refill a bigger number of cartridges, at the expense of printing quality.
Obviously, they do this to reduce the refill costs.
There are people who refill the cartridge with alcohol or,
ven with shoe ink! Normally, for a greater confidence that the cartridge will work
without trouble, it is recommended to refill it before it is completely empty.
Notwithstanding the above, many people run the cartridge dry and pretend to refill them
months after having emptied. Naturally, there are these "miracle refilling technician"
that say they are capable of recovering cartridges long time drier than the dessert
The problem of leaving empty cartridges for a long time is that the ink petrifies
in the filter that conducts its injector; this way, the ink doesn't reach the injector;
which acts as a resistance that makes the ink boil to make a microscopic bubble that,
when it breaks ejects a dot on the paper. The injectors have diameter -aproximately of
measured in micras -aproximately, 60 to 80 times thiner than a human hair
which is about 60 or 80 micras. When the ink dries, a consecuence of it is that the injector
that leads it to burn and this effect is shown in the impresion because this looks cut off
-a white line through the letters. however, there are procedures that allow recovering cartridges
with dry ink, as long as the injectors are not burned.
Another factor to consider is that some cartridges from different manufacturers incorporate a
chip that controls the amount of pages that can be done. For this type of cartridges there are
devices called re-programmers that restart the chip counter, making a possible recovery
In general, the cartridge refilling is a viable alternative that lets you save a significant
amount, because it usually costs ten times less than the cost of the new cartridges. In the
other hand, it favors recycling consumables, achieving a more efficient use of them.
In this particular point, recycling consumables, on this proposal to remove the cartridge refilling becomes really transcending. However, is true that sometimes, the cure is worst than the disease; it depends, it is clear, the quality of the ink that you use to refilling your cartridges, you have to make sure that the one refilling them is following strictly the right procedures the physical state of the cartridges, the time to take for the cartridge to get it empty, etc.
Here we show some intersting images ot the printing process.

Refilling advantages
Ecologic Impact: To improve the environtment is a compromise of all. When refilling
you Recycle your cartridges and help to reduce the manufacturing quantity of new cartridges.
Economic Impact: You will get very important savings by paying less for every cahange of cartridge.
What does manufacturers think
All printer manugacturers discourage all kinds of refilling and recycling,
and argue that besides getting bad quality, we can damage the printer. And in
some part they are right. If we use unapropriate inks, we get a dry cartridge
damaged or we don't refill it right, we will obtain awful printing and also will
get ink on the circuitry of the printer, surely we will burn it. But, what would we
think if the restaurant owners would discourage home cooking debating, that besides
not eating good we could suffer food poisoning and burn the building.
Everyone defends their own, and for the business manufacturers is on cartridges
It doesn't matter if you have to fix the machine, the more printers they put,
more cartridges will sell. that is why it is not rare to anyone to buy a new printer
with cartridges, is cheaper than the cartridges without printer. But of course,
if people buy printers, then refill the cartridges until they wear off
then changes the printer, the manufacturers wouldn't win. And we all know that
the multinational companies dont like losing money.
Of the refilled cartridges
Refilled cartridges last less: It is not true, they are trasparents (HP) and
you can see the ink in the case of the epson, the counter they have belongs to the machine,
they don't have a little green man that knows how much humidity is inside a cartridge,
they just count the amount of copies the printers does, no matter if the cartridge is
recycled, new or anything.
The cartridges ruined my machine: This is a phrase said by a neophyte (somebody
new on the subject) he said to the service center. Reality is that the worst thing
that can happen is to stain the macine with ink, something really nasty but, that
doesn't do anything to the operation of the machine. In the case of an Epson
may happen that if the ink is bad can block the printer.
Bought a new HP cartridge and it didn't last: What people doesn't know is that
HP now sells cartridges with the letters 创N创or 创D创 which means half load and
third part load, is the new deception from HP. The cartridge with the letter
创A创 are full.
